From burnout to arriving: how to create calm in everyday life

Three simple practices you can do anywhere to find your way back to yourself in the middle of the rush.

When there is too much on your plate, your body and your attention often signal it before you say it out loud: tiredness, irritability, the feeling that you are just “getting through” the days. The good news is that arriving doesn’t require a week off. A few minutes can be enough.

1. Three conscious breaths

Before you open your laptop or walk into a meeting, take three slow, deep breaths. Notice the air flowing in and out. This tells you: I am here now.

2. One task, with full attention

Choose one everyday activity a day – making coffee, washing up, a walk – and do it as if for the first time. Notice the smells, the sounds, your movements.

3. An evening question

Before going to bed, write one sentence: when was I truly present today? Over time you will notice more and more of these moments.

These practices won’t solve everything overnight – but they help you reconnect with yourself and see more clearly what you would like to change in your own life.
